Bro. Do you even blog?

Oh hey there, y'all. It's been quite awhile since I've posted on here. So long in fact that the website that was linked to this page was myspace. Some of you might not even know what that is. But I thought I might try and bring this back so I can go a little more in depth into the life of Abandoning Sunday. It's hard to let you all know all of the things going on when I'm limited to something like a 140 character tweet. Keep in mind, as you've probably already figured out with other things that I have tried to consistently do in the past, that I will probably somewhat suck at doing this regularly. But, as always, I will do the best that I can. So here goes.

The new album.
Everything has been tracked and edited and it has been sent off to the one and only Steven Loki Howell for mixing and mastering. Steven produced the last full band record, Forget, as well as all of the singles that I have ever released. It should take about a month to finish it up and then I should have a release date for you pretty soon after that.

Another special shout out goes to Andrew Brooks. If you follow Abandoning Sunday on social media, you've probably seen me post about him a few times. He ended up doing way more work on the album than he probably intended to or ever thought he was going to. because he's a good guy like that. Brooks contributed all of the drums, all of the bass, one random harmony during an attempt at a slower song called Wait For It, as well as one guitar solo that I wrote but was a little outside of my playing ability. Because I do that sometimes. Probably my favorite part of making this album was getting to hangout with him and become friends again. Make sure to show him some love and your appreciation by giving him a little follow on his Instagram machine. (@andrew_brooksy)

The new record is a little different. The songs that were written before, speaking mostly to the first full album Forget, were written during a time when I had a lot of different and messed up relationships with a lot of different people. Which resulted in all of the "we're messed up" sort of songs. Mostly about dumb girls because I was a dumb kid that thought I knew what was up. Turns out that I did not. But in the timeframe since then when most of the newer songs for this new record were written, I have actually cut out most of those honestly toxic and unnecessarily drama filled relationships completely out of my life. Having less relationships in general is a little lonely at times but it is also way less dramatic. Which was a nice change of pace. And it also gave me a lot of time for introspection and evaluation of my own life and actions over the past few years as well as the present and the future. Which is why a lot more of  the songs on this new record of more of an "I'm messed up" feel than a "we're messed up" sort of vibe from the last record. The previously released single Words is a great representation of that.

I don't know if any of that made any sense but I hope it helped to give you a little context for what's in store with the next record. Also, more details regarding album name, artwork, and song listing to come soon. So get ready for all of that.

The future.
Obviously, this new record. Hopefully followed in December or so by Reflect Part 2. Which will be full band versions of previously released acoustic songs. I am probably more excited about the Reflect Part 2 release than anything that I have ever released before. More details on that soon. Also, hopefully maybe sometime in February or early spring, I'd love to try and get out an acoustic Ep for all of you folks that like the more chill stuff. I'll be moving across the country and starting a new job so we'll see how much of that I actually accomplish but, as always when concerning this musical project, I will do my best.

I think that's probably all for now.
I hope this was a good first attempt at trying to get this going again and I hope you enjoyed my ranting and a little behind the scenes look as what's been going on and what is planned for the future.

Next time I'm thinking about doing a story behind the song sort of deal. Comment below with what song you would like to hear about and I'll post about whichever one get's mentioned the most.

Thanks for reading. Stay thirsty, my friends. Is a good day!

The Facebook

Yeah this pretty much never gets updated. You should probably just check out stuff on Facebook instead. Because, surprisingly enough, that actually does get updated. Good day. -Michael Thomas (Abandoning Sunday)

In a different place.

I don't even know where to start. I guess I'll just go for it. I'm living in Hawaii now. But just for a few months. I'm leading worship at a church there. It's an interesting place to be at and not just physically but both mentally and spiritually. Also, there's a new record on the way. I'm super excited for it. It's basically going to be the accumulation of everything I've worked at and for over the last 4 years or so. I really hope that you all like it. I''m in process of getting some other new things going that I hope you all will like. Also, hopefully, in January we'll start doing shows again. I'd love to hit the ground running as soon as possible. So if anyone knows of any good places to play and would love to hep me out with booking and everything, it would be greatly appreciated. I can't even tell you how much. I'm sure that there's more that I'm forgetting to mention. I'll try and get better about updating this again. Good things coming soon!

Indeed!

Hey bro! So, basically, some stuff has gone down in the last few weeks that I'm pretty excited about. Tomorrow morning, I leave to go and work for World Changers again for the summer. If you don't know what that is, it's a missions organization and I work for them as a worship leader leading music at youth mission trips all over the country. In short, best flipping job ever. Also, last night, we released a brand stinking new music video for our song "Patience" and it's pretty awesome if I may say so myself. Good day indeed. AAAAAND! Thursday of this last week, we finished tracking for the new record so that should be out sometime around September or so. Very cool stuff. ANd I'm sure there's other stuff that I'm forgetting but for now, this is what you get. Until next time, stay thirsty my friends.

We've got tiger blood.

That's right. You heard correctly. I don't know. Sometimes I just say things for no reason. The day that Charlie Sheen sort of went publicly crazy I was stuck in a Tuffy dealer for like 8 hours getting my van fixed and watched it all unfold in real time. And then on repeat. Like 27 stinking times. SO now I just quote ridiculous things that I've heard him say. Sorry. None of this has absolutely anything to do with..... well anything really. So here's the deal. This past weekend we played in a battle of the bands and even though we didn't win, we played what was probably our best set ever. So, needless to say, we're pretty stinking excited none the less. And now, tomorrow actually, we're headed into the studio to work with producer Steven Loki Howell on a new record. Good. Day. Good day. Good good day. And so much more to come. Hopefully more shows. As in lots of them. Anyone want to help book? That'd be nice. Some quality help is always appreciated. Also, I'll actually try to update this more than once a month. We love you. But just as friends. Or a really cute like dog. Of Course. Duh. Later, homes.

And so it begins.....

So it has begun. New stuff, good stuff, is coming. Starting this next Tuesday, the 29th. We will finally release a full band recording, Patience, which is also a single off of our upcoming album which we start working on next month. Once I figure out how I'm going to pay for it that is. Also, I'm in process as I type this of making and sending off an official iPhone ringtone of Patience. Which is going to be awesome. Just saying. Also! Sometime soon (which basically just means whenever I get around to it) I'll be uploading a make shift music video of some rarely seen footage of Abandoning Sunday. Mainly, it just consists of random shots from the studio and Casey, the drummer, doing weird things that most likely won't make any sense to you. Even better, the music for this music video thing will be a debut release of the full band recording of Example A. Which if you've followed Abandoning Sunday for a while, you know it's been an epic journey to finally get that done. Well.....I suppose that that is all for now. I'll try and post more stuff soon as more tasty goodness develops. Good times, my friends. Good times.

Is a good day.

I haven't posted in a while. Obviously. But it's been for good reasons. I've been so busy lately it's been ridiculous. But it's all with good things so it's okay. Like tonight, we're playing 2 shows in the same night and an acoustic show tomorrow AND a battle of the bands next Saturday. It's so crazy yet completely awesome at the same time. What else? Oh yeah. We've got some new merch stuff in. Like pink Abandoning Sunday guitar picks and black and white and white and black button pin thingys. And I finally got a logo designed. And it's on this new merch stuff. And it is awesome. To say the least. And I'm sure that there is so much more that I'm not even remembering right at this moment. It happens. But I will try and get better at this whole writing thing. So check back soon! Because you'll only find it here. Good day.

Even better than a Klondike bar.

I cannot accurately describe to you the amazingness of the past few months and the anticipation of this year to come. To finally be able to say band instead of strangely and sometimes somewhat awkwardly explaining to people that even though it sounds like a band it's just me is one of the greatest feeling that I have ever had the privilege of experiencing. To finally hear the songs the way that they are supposed to and intended to sound is indescribable. It's been a privilege to play alongside these amazing musicians and be a part of something that is actually good is the coolest thing. It's been awesome to get to know these guys on a whole other level and make some amazing music with them. I can't wait to see where we go from here and what's to come. I just said we. That's so cool. I love this. Good stinking day my friend. Good stinking day.

It's almost like giving birth. Except without all of the nasty smells and stuff.

Hello brotha! I made a pot of cool aid! Not really. But I have been working with some other guys lately and I've been working on incorporating them into the world of Abandoning Sunday and I do believe that it's going quite nicely. So I figured that you might like to see what they look like. At least the 4 people who actually ever read this thing might. So here are some pictures that I took really quickly for you all after practice today. Just for you. Isn't that nice. That wasn't a question. Obviously. And speaking of practice, we would love to have you come and hang out with us while it's happening. That'd be awesome. So here are the pictures and hopefully there will be more good stuff to come soon. Hopefully. Because that'd be nice. Good day. And stay thirsty my friends.

First ever picture as a band!

Because that's not creepy at all.....

I'll let you insert your own caption here on this one.

(P.S. Casey Roth is the one on the left and he plays drums and that's John Osterman on the right and he plays guitar.)

Good day, brother!

Dude. It's been a little while. But good stuff has been happening in the mean time! I've been working on some full band stuff and it sounds stinking awesome! I cannot describe to you how excited I am for you all to hear it. Speaking of such, if anyone is interested in playing some bass action, let me know. It's one of the last few pieces of the puzzle that we need to fill in. But between that and some new songs I've been working on it's been a good day and I'm working on getting some more shows so make sure to check that out and in the mean time don't forget to head on over to iTunes and get the Ep if you haven't already and also pick up some fancy clothing and such at http://abandoningsunday.bigcartel.com/ and help support gas in my van. Until next time everyone!

Help out poor musicians! (One in particular!)

In my adventures into the web that is world wide this week I discovered how to make a nifty little box that allows you to donate towards my worthy cause of feeding myself and staying alive. So here is said box. And also don't forget to keep checking out the blog (right here!) to keep up to date on stuff that you won't find out about anywhere else! At least not right away. Like the posted video of the unreleased song Invisible on youtube right now. Check it son. (www.youtube.com/abandoningsunday) That is all for now. Good day. Dude.

Tis been a while, no?

So it's been a few weeks since I last updated this thingy right here. So much has happened. We got to see touch down Jesus like right before it burned down! We went to the worlds largest knife store. We brought out our inner child at Zuma fun center. ANd lot's of other stuff I'm sure I'm forgetting as well. We have also departed from our dearly beloved North Team. You all are missed and we hope that you have an amazing summer. It's been kind of weird I guess. Because like everything is pretty much so far out of my comfort zone yet it's been so awesome at the same time and I've never had one complaint. At first it was kind of weird spending all day everyday with people that you didn't really know but now it would be kind of weird to not spend all day everyday with them. I think so anyways. Especially since it sort of feels like home anyways with all the jokes and miscellaneous what not directed in my direction. And I definitely just spelt miscellaneous correctly on my first try. Good day. But I'm sure they'll be glad to rid of me eventually. Sleep is evasive. Surprise. Nothing new there. There's so much food here. Everywhere. I recently revived my love flame with Olive Garden and have also received the new title of "Skinny Jeans". I don't even think anyone at this week's project knows my real name now. It happens. It's cool sometimes though because everything is new to me so even if it feels like the kids don't really care about what we're doing and aren't really into it, I'm just enjoying everything that's going on even though most of the time I don't really have any idea what's going on. You can check out pictures and stuff on the book of my face. (facebook.com/mikethomasemtf) You should do that. And comment and stuff! It'll make the day. In recap, nothing really makes sense, everything I just said was completely random and spontaneously done so, the only reason I'm doing this is because I'm bored and Kellen has the computer so I can't really do anything anyways, and I ate a gigantic chocolate chip cookie for lunch today and it was quite delectable. The End. So long kiddos. TTFN. Tah Tah For Now.

What would be the point of painting rainbows?

Dinner consisted of Chex Mix (with 60% less fat no less), peanut M&Ms, and some Reeses Pieces. I'm waiting on the stupid laundry to finish so that I can go to bed. That is all. The End. Goodbye.

You can be a.....World Changer!

So I'm sitting on a couch in a smelly dorm finishing off a 1 pound bag of skittles and finally posting something. I don't really have any pictures other than the few random ones that I uploaded to facebook from my phone. This week or so has been so stinking amazing. Within being here less than 3 hours I had already jumped into a pool with all my clothes on during a scavenger hunt. Which we dominated by the way. Getting to to worship for like 11 straight everyday, only to be interrupted when it's time to feed, has been one of the most amazing things ever. And also so has been spending all my time with people that I don't know, at all really. Everything has been a huge growing experience for sure and I could definitely not go back. No offense. I really have nothing else to say so I suppose I'll end with TTFN. Tah tah for now. Later kid.

Whaaaaat?

Heeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.......... So this would be a blog. My blog actually. I'm no good at this stuff but since I'm going to be gone pretty much the entire summer I thought I would try and upload pictures and videos and stuff so everyone could see what sort of messes and such that I'm getting into. The whole idea is lame. I know. But in the meantime you should go to purevolume.com/abandoningsunday and download Miles and States for FREEEEEEEEEE. And theeeeen go to myspace.com/abandoningsunday and listen to some music and stuff while you're waiting for me to update this thing. Because I know that's what you'll be doing. Just sitting there. Waiting. Refreshing the page every few minutes. Hoping for something new to look at. Yeah right. THE END.
